Who needs military might, when you have the power of lies at your disposal?
The article below is about the upcoming Olympics in Beijing. Please especially note the last paragraph on page 2. I saw a lot of this sort of thing while I was in Japan. And, while the Japanese and Chinese hate it when you compare their cultures, there are many, many striking similarities which hark back to the undeniable historical fact of mass cultural borrowing.
This article has to do with the importance of keeping promises in Asian society,… or rather, the lack of importance, despite lip service. I’m not trying to say, “All Asians blah blah blah,” just, “this is the way society itself is set up over there”– at least in Japan and China.

On the upshot, this sort of thing should put to rest all the conspiracy theories about supposed corruption and dictatorial fascism in the US. Somehow, the Truth always seems to venerate itself.
And in defense of the Chinese government, I have to wonder why journalists are so interested in Falun Gong when they are supposedly reporting on The Games?
